Windows / Steam save guide
Far Far West Save Editor Guide
Before using a Far Far West save editor, back up your Steam save. Then edit one existing Gold or Souls value on a separate copy and check your progress in-game. The local editor is an unofficial Windows tool; keep your original backup until you are satisfied with the result.
Far Far West Save Editor: Online or Local? Windows / Steam
This guide uses the community editor v11.4 for Windows and Steam. The author reports that three players tested v11.4 in-game with different saves, but the release notes do not specify their game versions. We have not inspected the ZIP, run the editor, or tested the restore process in-game. Game updates and different saves may behave differently.
Local option: the author's v11.4 ZIP is listed on GitHub with no price shown. The local steps below use a separate working copy on your Windows PC without uploading that copy to EditMySave.
Online option: EditMySave says its free browser editor can change currencies, inventory, loadout and progression. It says uploaded saves are stored privately to improve its editors, so choose it only if you are comfortable sending a copy to the service.
To try the online editor, first back up SaveGames and make a working copy with its original numeric SteamID filename. On its page, choose Browse Files or drop in that copy. The site lists Steam / Early Access; we have not verified its editing or export, game-version compatibility, or whether additional charges apply. The steps below cover the local Windows tool.
In the author's v11.4 release Assets, choose the ZIP beginning FarFarWest_SaveEditor_v11_4, not the Source code ZIP, and extract it completely.
The Windows editor needs Python 3 and Tkinter. If the Crypto module is missing, run_editor.bat attempts to install pycryptodome with pip.
The local editor changes files on your computer. Keep a separate backup: a successful save or checksum check does not guarantee the game will accept the edited file.
Back Up Your Far Far West Save Folder
Identify the right account and keep an untouched copy outside the game's save folder before making any change.
Step 1
Close Far Far West completely. Check that Steam has finished syncing; if it reports a sync error or conflict, resolve it before editing.
Step 2
In File Explorer, open %LOCALAPPDATA%, then go to FarFarWest > Saved > SaveGames. Copy the entire SaveGames folder to a separate backup location outside the game's save folder. Label it with the date and leave that original backup untouched.
Step 3
Identify your active account's numeric SteamID .save file. If you cannot tell which file contains your current progress, stop and check before choosing one; the newest file alone is not proof.
Step 4
Record whether Steam Cloud is enabled for Far Far West. For the local editing and recovery check, turn off Cloud for this game in Steam Library > Far Far West > Properties > General. Create a separate working folder and copy the chosen .save into it with its exact original filename.
Edit an Existing Gold or Souls Value
The example changes an existing currency record. It does not create a missing record or edit your original backup.
Step 1
Extract the editor to its own folder and run run_editor.bat. If pycryptodome is missing, the launcher attempts to install it with pip. If it does not start, stop and check the author's instructions before changing a save.
Step 2
In the editor, choose Open. In the file picker, check the full path and numeric filename before selecting the .save in your working folder. The author notes that drag-and-drop may cause an OverflowError on some Windows systems. Do not rely on whichever file the tool loads automatically from its own folder.
Step 3
If Open fails, or the editor reports a checksum or parsing error, close it without saving. Restart it and check the file and backup before trying again; do not continue saving in the failed session.
Step 4
Open Currencies and look for moneyGold or moneySoul. If the record is missing, close the editor without saving. With Cloud still off, earn that currency in-game and exit normally. Back up the updated SaveGames folder separately, then make and open a fresh working copy with the same filename. Do not put the older copy over your new progress.
Step 5
Select the existing currency row and check its current value. Enter a small non-negative whole number, then choose Apply and Save. Avoid extreme values; the editor's input range is not a guarantee that the game accepts them.
Step 6
Close and reopen the editor, explicitly open the same working copy and check the value. Keep your untouched backups; do not use Save As or rename the SteamID file.
Check the Edited Save in the Game
Only put the edited copy in the game's folder after checking the account, filename and separate backup.
Step 1
With the game and editor closed and Cloud still off for this game, copy the edited file from your working folder to the confirmed account's SaveGames folder, replacing that file with the same filename. Keep the untouched full-folder backup elsewhere.
Step 2
Start Far Far West and check both the changed value and your existing progress. If the game reports corruption, rolls back the save, or progress looks wrong, stop and restore the original backup below.
Step 3
After your local check succeeds, exit the game normally and restore its previous Steam Cloud setting. If Steam shows a conflict, compare the dates and times with your confirmed progress before choosing; do not automatically overwrite either copy. If you cannot identify the right copy, stop and keep both. Keep the original backup.
Restore the Original Save
Use the untouched backup from before editing. Do not assume a damaged save can be repaired without a known-good copy.
Step 1
Close the game and editor. Keep Cloud off for this game while checking the local restore, and copy the failed file elsewhere if you want to keep it for diagnosis.
Step 2
From your independent backup, copy the original account file back to the game's SaveGames folder with its exact original filename. Confirm the account and destination before replacing the edited file.
Step 3
Launch the game and check that the original progress is present. Exit the game normally, then restore its previous Cloud setting. If a conflict appears, compare the dates and times with the actual progress represented by each copy before selecting one. If you cannot identify the right copy, stop and keep both.
Step 4
The editor may also create a timestamped backup beside the file it overwrote. A later backup may already include edits, so identify its timing and contents before relying on it instead of your untouched original.
